Integrating Multilevel Security Policies in Multilevel Federated Database Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Federated database systems solve the problem of sharing information among independent entities. When building and operating such a federated database system, it is necessary to protect data. Because of heterogeneities among security systems of component databases an integration of them is essential, taking into account new security features of the federation itself. This paper describes a multilevel security policies integration methodology to endow tightly coupled federated database systems with a multilevel security system. So, taking into account the different preexisting multilevel systems of the component databases, an ordered set of classification levels for the multilevel security system of the federation is generated. The proposal is based on a schema integration process and it obtains, in a semi-automatic form, not only the ordered set but also the translation functions between each ordered set belonging to each component database and the federated ordered set. The proposed methodology also includes a way to solve the problem of classification of the components of the Federated Schema generated during the integration process.

Maintaining the Confidentiality of Interoperable Databases with a Multilevel Federated Security System
When several databases with multilevel security policies are federated to form a tightly coupled federated database management system, heterogeneities such as different accreditation ranges must be overcome. This paper describes an extended methodology to integrate policies that use different lattices as accreditation ranges. A semi-automatic process obtains the federated accreditation range an...
متن کاملSecurity issues for federated database systems
This paper describes security issues for federated database management systems set up for managing distributed, heterogeneous and autonomous multilevel databases. It builds on our previous work in multilevel secure distributed database management systems and on the results of others’ work in federated database systems. In particular, we define a multilevel secure federated database system and d...
متن کاملOn Schema and Functional Architectures for Multilevel Secure and Multiuser Model Federated DB Systems
This paper presents an approach for thigtly federated database systems with several federated schemas that consist of a schema architecture and a functional architecture. The reference schema architecture has been extended to deal with security aspects not well solved previously. The functional architecture includes the processors needed to build the federation and the main modules of the execu...
متن کاملSelf-protecting Objects in Multipolicy Federated Databases: A Prototype
A multipolicy secure federated database is a distributed database that allows the various sites to implement different security policies. The policy of a site is then enforced by all sites for data owned by this site. This paper describes a proof of concept prototype of such a multipolicy secure federated database. The prototype implements a multilevel federal security policy—that is a policy t...
متن کاملSupporting Secure Canonical Upgrade Policies in Multilevel Secure Object Stores
Secure canonical upgrade policies are multilevel relabel policies that, under certain conditions, allow high-level subjects to update low-level security labels. This paper describes a scheme whereby these policies can be supported within the Message Filter Model for multilevel secure object-oriented database management systems.
